Mandolin Ecstasy

For Centuries, the mandolin has been associated with music of Mediterranean countries like Spain and Italy, court recitals, serenading and various baroque concerti by Vivaldi. It is almost inconceivable to the western mind that this instrument could ever break away from its home of the western hemisphere and become the vehicle for rendering the intricacies of classical south Indian music. In spite of the limitations associated with this seemingly western instrument, Master U. Srinivas, blessed with a divine talent, shattered this notion of the unbelievable age of 11.

Srinivas stunned connoisseurs alike by his virtuosity, when he performed at the Indian fine arts society of Madras, India. This was merely the starting point of a career to bring him rapid recognition in the famous jazz festival of Berlin. Where at 13 he literally stole the show shared with the legendary miles Davis. Such public acclaim for his remarkably young artist brought about demands in such far distant points as Australia, Europe, United States and Canada.
