Maine, At Last - A Moving Memoir
The Maine Coast has a mystical allure rooted in natural beauty that makes it a dream destination. Like A Year in Provence and Under the Tuscan Sun, Maine At Last is the story of making a new home in such a special place. A tidal wave of retiring baby-boomers is expected to head to Maine in the next decade and Himself and MsMOMA are leading the pack.
The story began nearly sixty years ago when Himself came to Maine as a skinny lad of fourteen to be a lumberjack. He was deemed too small for that job, but he fell in love with Maine before he returned to New York City where he subsequently lived most of his life. MsMOMA is a Jersey gal and was ready for adventure when she retired to Maine with him in 2002. €œWe are a middle class couple with a literary bent, ordinary enough that our experience should resonate with many others and eccentric enough to be interesting.€Â
Maine, At Last is the journal of that first year in Maine €“ the move, becoming acquainted with the new territory and its customs, the first restoration efforts on a historic (c.1840) house in the DownEast coastal village of Cherryfield €“ The Wild Blueberry Capitol of the World, and the birth of the €œNarraguagus News.€Â
