LYMAN, KATHERINE, & LOIS LEMNITZER COLLECTION A collection of two checks from the Lt. General Lyman Lemnitzer and his wife Katherine, with one check being paid to and endorsed by their daughter Lois. A unique piece featuring three of the four Lemnitzer family members! Collection 1) Check signed: "L. L. Lemnitzer" and endorsed: "Lois K. Lemnitzer", in blue ink, 8¼x3. December 12, 1958. Drawn on the account of Lyman Lemnitzer at the Honesdale National Bank. Check no 4004. $50.00 paid to the order of Lois K. Lemnitzer. Ink stamps on front and verso. Fold in center. Fine condition. 2) Check signed: "Katherine Lemnitzer", in blue ink, 8¼x3. December 15, 1958. Check no 4008. Drawn on the account of Katherine Lemnitzer at the Honesdale National Bank. $201.73 paid to the order of The Webb Company. Ink stamps front and verso. Fold on left margin. Corners lightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition. LYMAN L. LEMNITZER (1899-1988) was promoted to Brigadier General in command of the 34th Anti-Aircraft Brigade and soon received appointment as Assistant Chief of Staff of the Allied Forces Headquarters under General Dwight D. Eisenhower in London. After aiding in the planning of the North African invasion, he resumed command of the 34th in February of 1943 and led it in the opening phases of General Patton's Sicilian Campaign. In late June 1943, he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the Allied 15th Army Group (U.S. 7th, British 8th) under General Sir Harold R.L.G. Alexander. He was promoted to Major General in November 1944. In 1952 he was promoted to Lieutenant General and General in 1955 when he was named Commander of U.S. Army Forces in the Far East and of the 8th Army.
