Lucumi

The slave owners had a name for the Africans from the former kingdom of Ulkamo: they called them ""LUCUMI"". This word survived in Cuba as a term for Yorub¡ culture. This African religion has had a considerable impact on Cuban musical traditions. On this album, Chucho Valdes, winner of several Grammys and one of the best jazz pianists ever, has gone deep into ""Lucumi"" mythology. He dedicated ""Ochun"", for example, to the god of love and of the rivers, the lord of gold, copper and coral. In ""Mambo influenciado"", on the other hand, he shows his heritage as the undisputed son of Mambo.
