London's 2nd City
How on earth did it happen? It was Britain€s biggest industrial desert, just to the east of the City of London. That was in the 1980€s, with little more than 600 workers in what was then the industrial docklands. Now it€s the brash Canary Wharf, employing roughly 100,000 in mainly financial services. It grew Europe€s tallest building, its most expensive road and a transport network that is the wonder of the world. This is the story of the battles fought and of those who made it work. Now what do we have to learn?
