Moffat Tartan Clan History
With roots firmly embedded in the soil of the Scottish Borders, the Moffats were at the forefront of Scotland's long and bitter struggle with its English neighbour during the thirteenth and fourteenth century Wars of Independence. When not battling the common foe, they also gained a fearsome reputation as reivers, or raiders, and were frequently punished for their lawlessness.
