Lo Mato
Willie Colon was an architect of the Fania sound. His partnership
with Hector Lavoe on vocals has left a lasting legacy on the genre
of salsa. Colon was also a composer as well as a producer and
trombonist.
Originally released in 1973, this classic features both men at their
peak. From beginning to end the tracks are layered with the roar
of the trombone while Hector bobs and weaves his vocals through
a wall of sound. The album has an undertone of darkness as the
streetwise production touches on some tough topics. Stand outs
include the ever-contemporary Calle Luna Calle Sol , Todo
tiene Su Final and El Dia De Suerte amongst others. Colon and
Lavoe at their funky best.
