Lemuria-Seascape
This album (originally released in 1991) holds immense appeal and affords the listeners myriad delights. This showcases Kenny Barron's warm, undiluted lyricism, an inner strength and conviction, with a projection of many emotions. His personalised reworking of the Monk-scape "Ask Me Now" gains a new life under his fingers, and "Have You Met Miss Jones" is reminiscent of McCoy Tyner who recorded it some 30 years earlier. Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond (bass) and Ben Riley (drums) as all the best jazz trios do come to the point where describing them as merely "a rhythm section" is almost an insult. Communication of such unspoken complexity is one of the great mysteries of jazz that cannot be explained. This is classic Trio Jazz as its finest.
