LeapFrog Creatr 3D Printer Starter Package, Single Extruder, 200 x 270 x 230 mm Maximum Build Dimensions 0.05-mm Maximum Resolution; ABS, Laybrick, Nylon, PLA, and PVA Filament

The Leapfrog Creatr single-extruder fully assembled 3D fused-filament-fabrication printer starter package contains a partially open frame 3D printer for fabricating parts up to 200 x 270 x 230 mm (H x W x D) using 1.75-mm ABS, laybrick, nylon, PLA, and PVA filament (sold separately) and includes printing materials and accessories, Simplify3D software, and a live broadcast training session. The printer has a hot end with a maximum resolution of 0.05 mm and connects to the computer using the included USB cable. The printer head moves in the X (left and right) and Y (backward and forward) axes, while the print table moves in the Z (up and down) axis. The frame is made of laser-cut aluminum to resist temperature fluctuations and maintain long-term accuracy, and it is closed on three sides to dampen print noise. Blue LEDs within the frame light up to enable viewing during a print job. The 6-mm thick tempered-glass build plate resists warping during temperature changes and can be heated up to 80 degrees C (176 degrees F) to prevent uneven cooling and warping of the printed part.

The printer comes with a 1.5- to 2-hour live training broadcast to walk the customer through printer setup and use. The package also includes 6 spools of filament, 50 print stickers that adhere to the smooth print bed to improve the bond between the printed part and the print bed, an 8GB USB drive to store print files, a toolkit to maintain the printer, and Simplify3D software to slice and convert files into g-code.

Fused filament fabrication printers build prototypes and parts directly from computer-aided-design (CAD) data sources by stacking layers upon layers of molten material. The print material is provided in filament or wire form and is fed through an extruder within the print head, similar to how ink is used in a standard printer. A printer with a single extruder can print using one filament at a time; a printer with dual extruders can print with two different materials or colors at the same time. The thickness of the printed layers can be customized for each print, but the thinnest layer that a printer can lay is called its maximum resolution. Choosing to print using very thin layers will create parts with more detail, but will typically take longer to print. To lay the material in the correct way, the print head and bed typically move in a combination of X-axis (left and right), Y-axis (forward and backward), and Z-axis (up and down) movement.
