Johnny's Jaunt (Terran Chronicles)

Johnny's Jaunt is the first short story belonging to the Terran Chronicles Universe. Johnny is an adventurous nine year old boy, who happens to reside on a heavily guarded facility. The arrival of a fleet of massive spacecraft provide us with the stark reality that we are not alone in the universe. The damage to the spaceships proves that is it not peaceful out there either. With almost no warning the aliens leave, raising many questions. The discovery of a partially built spaceship in the Australia Outback raises even more questions. Many nations pool their resources as they work to complete the alien craft. Meanwhile, George's son, Johnny, wants nothing more than the chance to explore the mighty spacecraft.
