Japanese Ryukyu Suna Hana 1095 HC Functional Katana Sword Leather Wrapped

Japan, an island nation, has lands stretching as far south as the Ryukyu Islands, once known as the Ryukyu Kingdom. As a Kingdom of islands in a tropical paradise, sand and flowers share the same space. Hence this one of a kind fully functional sword, Suna Hana, meaning Sand Flower. Contained in this package is a thick katana blade crafted for the purpose of cutting, then elegantly decorated for display purposes as second nature.

Two features on this katana combine to make this one of the most interesting sword specimens.

Firstly, it has a safety release button. The sword cannot be drawn from the Saya until you have fully depressed the safety button, located Fuchi (collar next the Tsuba hand guard). It would require some pressure to fully depress that little button, so if you have kids it is perfect. If a complete stranger held this sword, they would not know how to pull the blade out unless you told them about the little button on the collar.

Secondly, the Saya of this Ryukyu style katana is wrapped entirely in genuine animal skin leather. The leather has been properly colored with a reddish tint and hand stitched the entire length with very thick silk string. At the top of the leather there are three closure snaps which allow you to unbutton the top and use it or show it off.
