JACK DOUGLAS - PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED
JACK DOUGLAS. Vintage Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Lewis/Best Wishes/Jack/Douglas". B/w with brown hue, 3x3¼. Actor, humorist, screenwriter and producer Jack Douglas (born in England in 1927) is perhaps best known for his roles in the "Carry On" films, from Carry on Girls in 1973 to Carry on Columbus in 1992. Douglas, who had intended on being a producer like his father, got his first taste of comedy when one of his performers failed to appear and Douglas had to don a costume and go on stage himself. He created his "Carry On" character of Alf Ippititimus while working with comedian Joe Baker, who got locked out of the theater one night. Forced to go onstage alone, Douglas just stood in front of the audience, fidgeting with his cap, which greatly bemused the crowd. He also brought his humor to several TV shows, both as a writer (The Red Skelton Show, 1951-1952) and a performer, and wrote a number of books, ranging from tongue-in-cheek travelogues to humorous cookbooks. Ink lightly smudged at inscription, stray ink mark at upper right edge. Lightly soiled at lower blank margin. Overall, fine condition. For more information contact HistoryForSale. DOCUMENT 78491
