Israel Defence Forces: Six Day War
This is an official album of the Six Day War also known as the June War, 1967 Arab-Israeli War, or Third Arab-Israeli War, which was fought between June 5 and 10, 1967 by Israel and the neighboring states of Egypt (known at the time as the United Arab Republic), Jordan, and Syria. This album deals exclusively with the battles of the Israel Defence Forces in the Six Day. A comprehensive review of that war would need to include the background, the political struggle, and an account of the civilian front, the munitions industry, public services and numerous other elements which played an essential part in the campaign. These, however, fall outside the scope of this work. Nor is there any description of the dramatic days of preparedness in late May and early June. The battles alone form the subject of this album. In order to preserve the authenticity of this report, only original documents and photographs taken during the fighting have been used. However, the action in some the key battles, where the fighting was most bitter, was not photographed at the time, and in a few cases the scenes were re-enacted and shot. Use of this device was kept to the very minimum. The text seeks to offer a running story, rather than serve simply as captions to the illustrations. The battle maps are the work of the draftsman in the Operations Branch of the General Staff. They are based on detailed analyses of the course of each battle, and were checked by the respective operational commanders.
