Innovating Science forensic chemistry kit is used to practice detection of fingerprints. Students learn to distinguish fingerprint types, understand the fuming method for fingerprints, and practice the technique of chemically developing fingerprints for identification. The kit has three activities for detailed study-- fingerprint analysis, ninhydrin development, and cyanoacrylate fuming—with materials for 15 groups of students for hands-on learning, including super bonding glue, ninhydrin powder, ethanol, fuming trays, and black plastic sheets. The kit has a teacher’s manual and student study guide copymasters for instructional use, and a material safety data sheet (MSDS) packet for product information and handling procedures. The kit is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision, and meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only.
