“He thinks I am having a little trip to forget all about John.”

“Have you?”

The question was serious. Rose closed her eyes and buried her face in his neck, allowing his scent to fill her nostrils. “No. I haven’t. I don’t know how I am supposed to trust anyone ever again.”

“You can trust me, Rose.”

Could she? She wasn’t sure. The last few days she had been unceremoniously ushered out of the bedroom while Cassel, Paddy, and a few others had conducted some sort of business with Beckett, business he never wanted to discuss afterwards.

Beckett had been secretive about what was going on, and none of the others, not even Clair, wanted to share anything about what was happening with her either. It made Rose feel like a pariah even she knew that they had no reason to trust her.
