Home Grown
Home Grown is a book of poetry and musings by WWII vet, Ruben Carmon Woodley. Mr. Woodley states: "I was born in Tishoming County, Mississippi, 1925 and lived on a farm until I was 18. I finished High School in 1944 and was drafted into the U.S. Navy the day after I finished. I served aboard a sub repair ship and other duties for 22 months during World War II. I received an Honorable Discharge in 1946 and went to work for Sears in Birmingham where I met my wife Ann. We moved to Michigan and stayed there for 35 years. I was in auto upholstering for 15 years. I then went to Home Building for 15 years there and about 7 years in Alabama. My wife Ann and I have been married for over 67 years. We have 4 children, 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. I have been a Mason for 55 years (got my 50 year pin five years ago). We are members of Fellowship Baptist Church in Cleveland, Alabama where I am the Music Director. I have been writing poetry since I was in High School (some not too good)." His heart and insights are filled with a lifetime of experience and service. His feelings and memories are expressed with devotion, faith, and patriotism in the pages of his poetry.
