Gypsy Tunes...California Style, That is
The Transylvanian Mountain Boys story goes back 20 years, with a 10 year break in the middle, and now it's one heck of a good time playing music together again, as we are all becoming middle-aged guys. The music that we chose to play back then was mostly Russian standards and a few more corny classics, crowd-pleasers, that people young and old seemed to find very exciting. That did the trick for a year or two until we got to the real thing, which was a yellow cassette tape entitled Music of Moldova and Bessarabia . This tape was given to us by a friend, Marc Aubord, of New York City. That was the homework we needed, and we spent quite a few days and nights listening to this cassette from a different culture, trying to learn their music and language. No YouTube at the time.
