Gibsons The Dambusters Jigsaw Puzzle (636-Piece)
The afternoon of 16th May 1943 marked a historic war time event steeped in heroism. Depicting an iconic Lancaster Bomber, the puzzle reminds us of a mission led by Guy Gibson and the men of 617 Squadron. They had to learn extraordinary flying skills for Operation Chastise, flying at a low level at night deemed difficult for even the most experienced pilots. However, using simple hand-held wooden triangles with dowel markers, it took five attempts for the 19 Lancaster's, each with one bomb, to breach the Moehne Dam and subsequently the Eder Dam. Eight of the Lancaster's that set out that day did not return and 53 men lost their lives. However 33 surviving Dam busters were awarded honors and Guy Gibson received the country's highest award for velour - the Victoria Cross. The Dam busters jigsaw puzzle is the perfect memorial to all of these brave men and a coveted souvenir for those who wish to remember their bravery. Beautifully illustrated by artist Philip West. All of Gibson's jigsaws are a joy to handle and are made from the highest quality 100% recycled board.
