Garmin-Foot-Pod
This is the accessory you need to get your Garmin FR60 to track the distance you run, walk, or hike. Or you can sync it with the Forerunner 310XT to track indoor workouts. You either attach it to your shoelaces or, if you have the right shoes, you can tuck it into the mid-sole pocket. This isn't your basic foot pod. It uses a MEMS (micro electro-mechanical systems) inertial-sensor to determine your stride length and adjust as your stride changes. The whole thing is about the size of a quarter and has a tiny cantilever beam with a seismic mass inside. The mass moves when the pod moves and the deflection is measured. In other words, it's a tiny accelerometer that's 98% accurate. The sensor also measures and transmits running cadence to figure out your speed and optimize your running. The Garmin Foot Pod comes with the cradle that attaches it to shoelaces. The claimed weight is 10g.
