Forced His Way In

Roger glanced in her direction, but she was sure she was well hidden. He nonchalantly went on with his deal. She quickly returned to her usual station, not looking up later when he came to check out the usual bogus book. Her mind was filled with questions and the knowledge that she needed to report what she had seen to somebody. But it was Roger, the only bright spark in every dull and monotonous day. How could she do that? She felt torn in two.

The next evening, just after closing time for the public, Melissa pushed her book-laden trolley towards the back of the library, her mind only partly on the task at hand, her thoughts still being filled with what she had witnessed the previous day and what she needed to do about it.
