Matrioshka (Nesting dolls) The art of producing hand-painted Matrioshkas began in 17th Century in Sergiev Posad, Russia and later spread to Moscow, Semenovo, Polohov-maidan, Tver and other regions. Matrioshka doll is unique gift coming from the hart of Russia, bearing a rich tradition and artist's personal touch, your doll will be treasured for generations to come. The name itself "Matrioshka" probably came from the old women's name Matriona (not used at present time). Some Matrioshkas, like Semenovskaia, Polohov-Maidan and others are made by thousands. They call it "traditional" Matrioshkas. Others "artistic" Matrioshkas are made by individual painters, and have limited addition. Sport dolls (as NY Jets), Political (as Putin, Obama), Animals (as dogs, horses), Russian fairy tales, Cartoons (as Shrek), Music (as M Jackson), Movies (as H Potter), Santa etc. (We have it all) ***************************** Tips for opening and caring of Matrioshkas. - Always open a doll by "breaking" it sideway as if you were breaking a stick. - Hold it horizontally. - Do not twist the doll as this can cause the paint to chip around the edges. - Never pick it by the top part, since loose Matrioshka can drop down. - Occasionally, fluctuations in humidity and temperature can affect doll's fit. Heat can cause the lacquer to seal. - To open it hold it between your palms and apply pressure: you will hear a small pop as the lacquer seal releases. - Display your dolls out of direct sunlight. - Keep it clean from dust. - Choking hazard. Not recommended for small kids as small items inside.
