Faure: Piano Trio Op.120; Pierne: Piano Trio Op.45
Faure's Piano Trio is a late work which at once gained the admiration of his contemporaries and is now regarded as one of the finest trios in the French repertory. The much less well-known Piano Trio of Pierne, premiered a year earlier, is characterized by its solid architecture, great melodic richness and a notably inventive rhythmic style. These two masterpieces make an eminently logical coupling and receive benchmark performances here by the acclaimed ensemble Trio Wanderer.
