This Book tells the Story of one Irish member of the Murphy clan, Father John Murphy, a Roman Catholic priest who in 1798 in the Irish County of Wexford, took a decision to support his parishioners as they joined the rebellion against the British. By all accounts Murphy was a remarkable man, who took command of a huge arm of untrained farmers and labourers and led them to a number of victories against both local and regular forces of the British army. Father Murphy’s story ends in tragedy but his bravery and determination to stand up for his people and for what he felt was right has reverberated down through the centuries and is honoured across the world, particularly where members of the wide spread Murphy family have made their home.

In this book we also provide a brief history of Ireland so that readers might see the tradition of rebellion engendered by Ireland’s long and troubled domination by England
