FRESHWATER
Nervous mumbles and curses rise above the sounds of the bubbling water, resonating across the newly constructed holding pen. Suddenly the wailing of shrill sirens shatter the quiet, followed quickly by pounding footsteps on the cement deck of the holding pen. Too late, the deadly breech has already occurred.
At Freshwater Aquarium, a prized specimen escapes into Lake Michigan, but no warning or Coast Guard alert is sent. Frightened and alone, the specimen waits patiently in the shallows, scouring the shoreline. Hidden from sight she searches for something familiar, but her instinct drives her forward, lurking and ready to satisfy her hunger, and willing to protect her new territory at any cost.
Terror stalks the warm summer waters of Lake Michigan, and under the simmering summer sun, swimmers, sunbathers, boaters, and jet skiers crowd the sandy beaches of Freshwater, Indiana. Away from the throngs of beach-goers, a lone jet skier screams and silently disappears into the water. The killing has begun.
Silently the waters of Lake Michigan turn red with innocent blood. Dr. Samantha Whitesmith, marine biologist and mammal behaviorialist, and her brother, Cole Whitesmith, a world renowned marine photographer, return to the safety of Freshwater. Coincidence or destiny has directed Sam to a new position at the FreshWater Aquarium, and brought Cole to the safety of Freshwater. Cole searches for solace from the demons of guilt caused by the death of his fiancee, and Samantha hopes for a new beginning. Both believe they had changed their lives, but nothing compares to the changes Freshwater would have on them.
