Estranged (Kindle Single)

A powerful and haunting memoir about walking away. Jessica Berger Gross grew up in a middle class town on Long Island, and from the outside, her family looked like any other. But Jessica was forced to keep secret the violence that went on at home. Finally, at the age of 28, she realized that her family was so broken it couldn’t be put back together, and so she irrevocably cut ties with her mother and father. As she soon learned, however, such a choice could not be made without calling into question her own essential goodness and morality. Evocative and unflinchingly honest, Estranged describes one woman's struggle with her past, and her unique journey towards happiness.

Jessica Berger Gross is the editor of the anthology About What Was Lost: 20 Writers on Miscarriage, Healing, and Hope and author of enLIGHTened: How I Lost 40 Pounds with a Yoga Mat, Fresh Pineapples, and a Beagle Pointer. She writes frequently for Yoga Journal, and her essays and articles have appeared in Salon, The Globe and Mail, and The New York Times Magazine. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and young son.
