E.R. Wagner Americaster Plate Caster, Swivel with Strap Brake, Dust Cover, Polyurethane on Polyolefin Wheel, Ball Bearing, 250 lbs Capacity, 5" Wheel Dia, 1-1/4" Wheel Width, 6-1/4" Mount Height, 3-3/4" Plate Length, 2-3/4" Plate Width
This E.R. Wagner Americaster series swivel plate caster with a strap brake has a polyurethane on polyolefin wheel, a flat base with holes for bolting or welding to an object, and a swivel design to allow movement with a 360-degree change in direction. A strap brake, also called a tread lock brake or top lock brake, moves a cam and metal strap to make contact with the top tread of the wheel. The plate caster's wheel consists of a dark blue polyurethane tread molded to a light gray polyolefin core. The wheel rolls with ease, provides quiet operation, resists abrasion and impact, and protects floors, and it is suitable for bearing light to heavy loads on carpeted and hard-surfaced floors. The medium-soft polyurethane tread is non-marking and resistant to water, oil, and most acids. The wheel has a recommended operating temperature range of -20 to 180 degrees F, and a medium-soft tread hardness of 50 to 60 Shore D. The dust cover protects the wheel bearing and swivel ball races by keeping lubricant inside the caster and preventing debris from entering. The POM (polyoxymethylene) bearing provides durability and corrosion resistance, and reduces the need for oil lubrication. This caster meets the certification standards of NSF International (National Sanitation Foundation) for casters and wheels in the food service and sanitary industries.
Plate casters are wheeled mechanisms used to support and maneuver objects such as carts, racks, and dollies. Plate casters are named for their mounting system: they have a flat plate, usually with four bolt holes, that forms the top of the caster and attaches to the object. Plate casters vary in their maneuverability. Some are rigid and only roll at a fixed angle, while other casters swivel to allow a 360-degree change in direction. Plate casters may have brakes, and swivel casters may have locks to set them to a fixed angle. Casters may have single or twin (dual) wheels made from a variety of materials. Generally, wheels with hard tread material have a higher load capacity and roll easier than soft tread wheels, which provide quieter operation and cushioning. Load capacity for plate casters is also affected by tread width and wheel diameter. Plate casters are used on furniture, carts, shelving, appliances, scrap bins, production dollies, and utility trucks for material handling applications in a variety of industries.
