EOD School US Navy Challenge Coin
Naval School, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment (EOD) was established in 1985 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to train Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians. As a consolidated training facility, basic EOD training for all military branches is centralized here. Steady hands and nerves of steel are the most important tools used by those training at EOD. In the field, EOD graduates will control weapons and render explosive harmless at great personal peril wherever the threat may be - on land or in water - and arrive at the heart of danger by parachute drop or underwater dive. The school's emblem and unofficial motto - initial success or total failure - describes the razor's edge of jeopardy that EOD personnel must work on. In order to shoulder such a tremendous burden, EOD School provides exceptional training to extraordinary men and women, because here, clearly, failure is not an option. Minted in the USA and struck in antique-finished MerlinGold, the EOD School challenge coin pays homage to the courageous men and women who train there and the lives they save regularly.
