Macdonald's records of the process by which the Fathers of Confederation drafted the Canadian Constitution and prepared it for passage by the Westminster Parliament, augmented by G.P. Browne's judicious selection of letters, notes from informal meetings, and colonial office memoranda. First published in 1969, it was immediately recognized as an indispensable resource for students of Canadian history.
