The Cisco 3550 series offers users and managers the ability to deploy a cost effective, port-dense fast Ethernet switching solution to their small to medium size businesses. Advanced QoS, GBIC Gigabit up-links, and high-performance routing offer an intelligent solution to meets the demands of today's dynamic IT environments while keeping an eye on the budget.

These 3550 multilayer devices offer investment protection through Cisco Inline Power, or Pre-standard PoE, to IP Telephones, Access Points and other PoE compatible PD's (Powered Devices). Pre-standard power delivers up to 15W of power over standard copper twisted pair cabling. The ability to stack these switches via the integrated GBIC slots allows managers to deploy an array of gigabit interconnect devices and cables to achieve the desired logical aggregation of ports. Stacking also offers resiliency, redundancy and load balancing via Cisco PVST+ (Per VLAN Spanning Tree Plus).

The 1RU WS-C3550-24PWR-SMI ships with Cisco's SMI, or Standard Multilayer Image, software. This configuration offers Advanced QoS, ACL (Access Control Lists), basic routed and static RIP (routed information protocol) and rate limiting.
