INTERESTING FACTS:
§ From 1849-52, Bloch studied under Wilhelm Marstrand at the Royal Danish Academy of Art.
§ In 1852-53, he won silver medals for drawings he exhibited at the Academy.
§ In 1859, he was awarded a scholarship from the Art Academy to travel to Rome, Holland and France. His genre paintings in Rome established his reputation as a painter.
§ In 1865, Bloch became a Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. That same year, he was commissioned by brewery owner J.C. Jacobsen for 23 paintings on the life of Christ for King Christian IV's chapel at Frederiksborg Castle.
§ In 1868, Bloch returned to Copenhagen and married Alma Trepka, whom he met in Rome.
§ In 1871, he became Professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
§ From 1888-90, Bloch was Vice Director at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
§ In 1890, Carl Bloch died of Cancer.
