Boll Weevil Ruminations
Boll Weevil Ruminations, the latest release by tuba player William Roper, is loaded with slap stick, as well as tongue-in-cheek comedy and a bit of quasi-tragedy. As usual, he has included some spoken word pieces. He even gives us an improvised Christmas tale that is appropriate at any time of year. The project mixes pieces from new and old recording sessions. Roper provides us with a wide range of colors, employing more and less familiar colleagues including Vinny Golia on clarinets, Michael Vlatkovich - trombone, Bill Payne - clarinet, Robin Ross - viola and the late Glenn Horiuchi on shamisen. Listening to Boll Weevil Ruminations is wild ride that will you'll get off of with a big smile on your face.
