Blast Furnaces of Sparrows Point One Hundred Years of Ironmaking on Chesapeake Bay

Blast Furnaces of Sparrows Point covers the history of what was once one of the largest steel plants in the world. From the building of a "company town" in the 1880's, to a plant with 25,000 employees that set world production records, much of what is described no longer exists. The author, who worked on the furnaces in the 1950's, describes the changes in technology in blast furnace practice and the economic forces that led to the downsizing of the plant and the demise of Bethlehem Steel Corp. The 128 page book is 8 x 10, and includes over 60 historical photographs, maps and drawings.
