Bizet-Sarasate: Carmen Fantaisie / Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen / Saint-Saens: Havanaise / Lalo: Symphonie Espagnole
Available on CD for the very first time, this classic Decca title has been given the complete XRCD24 make-over. Carmen Fantaisie is performed by the L.S.O. and conducted by Pierino Gamba and features the impressive talents of American-born violinist Ruggiero Ricci. Ricci, a child prodigy, first became recognized for his virtuoso talent on his performances of several concertos by such well-known composers as Felix Mendelssohn and Niccolò Paganini. Pablo Sarasate, a violinist known for both his Spanish flavor and Hungarian Gipsy style of musical compositions, wrote Carmen Fantaisie on this album recorded by Decca in 1959 in the Kingsway Hall in London.
