Tyrannosaurus Rex (meaning Tyrant lizard king) was a huge, fierce, meat-eating dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 85 to 65 million years ago. This theropod dinosaur probably lived in forests, where its prey (large, plant-eating dinosaurs) could find plenty of food. Tyrannosaurus Rex was named by paleontologist Henry Fairfield Osborn in 1905. There is a jug on his head and an incut rail along his spine and tail. Triceratops (meaning "Three-horned face") was a large, quadrupedal, plant-eating dinosaur with three horns on its large head. Triceratops hatched from eggs and probably lived in herds. It lived during the late Cretaceous period about 72 to 65 million years ago. Triceratops was hunted by T-Rex. There is a jug on his back and if rotated, you can grab an edge on his armored head. Pterodactyl was a flying reptile that lived during the time of the dinosaurs - it was not a dinosaur, but was a close relative of the dinosaurs. Pterodactyl's wing-span is longer than that of any known bird. It had a crest on its head, no teeth at all, and a very short tail. This guy has a jug on his head. Stegosaurus had 17 bony plates that were embedded in its back - the plates ran along the Stegosaurus' back and tail in two rows, and the plates alternated in alignment. The largest of these triangular plates was about 2.5 ft (76 cm) tall and just as long. Stegosaurus also had spikes at the end of its flexible tail (these are called thagomizers. You can grab his head or on the bony plates. Sorry, we couldn't fit all 17 on him but he sure is fun to climb on. The dinosaur Brontosaurus (Marsh, 1879) is now called Apatosaurus. Apatosaurus' nostrils were located on the top of its head. They were an herbivore which means plant-eater. Apatosaurus swallowed stones to help grind up its tough plant food. It did not chew its food. Pinch his neck, grab the head or even his back and don't forget the tail! Lots to play on.
