The American Educational 7-501-2 platinum wire electrode is for use in chemical and electricity experiments, including voltaic cells, electrolysis, and electrical current flow. A pair of electrodes is required to demonstrate the flow of electrical currents. The electrode is made of platinum wire in plastic tubing inserted into a rubber stopper for placement in test tubes, flasks, and other containers. It is 3/4" in diameter and 8" long.

An electrode, also called a sensor or probe, is an instrument used with a meter to test and measure parameters of a substance. Ion selective electrodes (ISEs) respond selectively to ions in the presence of other ions. Electrodes are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists in a wide variety of industries, such as aquaculture, agriculture, chemistry, food and beverage, wine-making and water-testing, and for scientific applications. An electrode can be used with a datalogger to assist in temperature measurement.
