Just what has he gotten himself into?

It’s hard enough for Jaron to accept that he’s become a shifter, but to be told by his new lover, Aidan, that he’s meant to unite the two feuding werewolf clans is more than he can bear. To make things worse, Aidan is harbouring a secret, and Jaron isn’t quite so sure he wants to know what it is.

All he wants to do is to go back to his old life - as a Silicon Valley geek hoping to fund his startup. Unfortunately, the stakes are raised even higher when a vicious wolf, drunk with power, kidnaps his friends and his mate.

Jaron couldn’t sleep. He kept tossing and turning, crumpling the bedsheets as he sighed fitfully. His heart was heavy and he didn’t know why. He hardly even knew these people. Why did he feel such a strong sense of attachment to them anyway? Just because they were all “shifters”? A few hours ago, he’d offered to lay down his life for someone he’d barely known for more than a couple of weeks. Jaron couldn’t comprehend it. That’d been so unlike him. Lying wide awake in bed, the rational part of his mind berated itself for getting so involved. He was getting too attached to these people, these crazy animals who heralded him as some sort of saviour, a saviour he knew he would never be.

He stared at the ceiling, wondering if he’d ever be able to make sense of all this.

The doorbell chimed. Jaron rubbed his eyes. He wasn’t dreaming, was he? He grabbed the alarm clock off the side table next to the bed. It was two in the morning. Who on earth could it be? He lay in bed, waiting. Then the doorbell chimed again. Wearily, Jaron got out of bed, a little wary of who this visitor could be. It didn’t help that he’d just been told earlier on that Fedor was after him. He walked cautiously to the front door, trying his best not to make a sound. Holding his breath, he looked out through the peephole.

Aidan.

He opened the door immediately and Aidan bolted inside as soon as the latch lifted, hugging Jaron tight before proceeding to smother him with kisses. Jaron was surprised by Aidan’s sudden ardour but that didn’t stop him from kissing him back passionately. Ever since that evening in the conference room, Aidan seemed a little more cold and aloof. They’d barely even looked at each other since then. Coupled with the recent turn of events, this was definitely something he wasn’t expecting.

“Bedroom. Now.” Aidan said, tugging at Jaron’s faded t-shirt as he led him inside.
