Alien Civil War: First Human Contact (1st in The Knife series)

An alien ship is found in jump-space without power. This is impossible; nothing larger than a 1/10 of a grain of sand can stay in jump-space un-powered.

The heavy cruiser Detroit and its captain are overdue for retirement. First contact and a huge mystery would cap a great career. The ship is scanned and boarded, and then it comes to life. It is the flagship of a rebel fleet that lost the war. It€s also spotted by three first-class empire ships. The aliens make a deal; help us fight, and we€ll give you faster-than-light communications. This led to a full-scale war between humans and the empire, and things got ugly fast.
