Ain't No Love
An extremely talented vocalist raised in the gospel tradition, Lavon “Donnie†Tatum is currently the lead singer in the acclaimed old school soul group TRU (Talented, Religious and Unique) that has become one of the most popular live acts in the Northeast, particularly in Atlantic City where they draw huge crowds. Tatum began his recording career as a member of the group Gentlemen Of Leisure that recorded the single "Never Had A Love Like This Before" in 1980. He come also be heard on the movie score of “The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh†on Lorimar Records in 1979. In 1981, Donnie joined the legendary acappella gospel group “The Stars Of Harmony†based out of Woodbury, New Jersey. In 1995, Tatum scored the lead role in the off Broadway production “If Only For You†in Atlantic City†and continued touring as a solo gospel artist until 2008 when he joined TRU with singers James “Jimi†Williams and Primo Wansley. The group attracted the attention of legendary Philly soul producer Butch Ingram and recorded the critically acclaimed album My Love Is TRU in 2010 on Society Hill Records, to which Donnie contributed the songs “Night & Day Dreams†and “Who Do You See When You Look At Me?.†Donnie also recorded background vocals on the 2010 CD of Glenn Leonard (former lead singer of the Temptations) featuring Jean Carne entitled “Then and Now.†At the behest of Butch Ingram, Donnie has finally made a proper solo album featuring the first family of Philly Soul, the great Ingram Brothers band and the Society Hill Orchestra backing him up on a solid set of new soul tunes, a Gamble & Huff classic and two tunes (“Night And Day Dream†and “Who Do You Seeâ€) penned by Donnie himself. One of the great voices of today’s soul revival finally gets his just due with the new album “Ain’t No Love.â€
