ANNIE OAKLEY Her rare signature on a 4x2½ card, matted and then attached to an 11x16 reproduction of a poster publicizing her show Signature: "Annie Oakley", 4x2½ card. Affixed to a 4¼x2¾ matte which in turn is affixed to a larger matte 11¼x16, which features a reproduction of a poster publicizing her appearance. Sharpshooter Annie Oakley toured vaudeville circuits and circuses with her husband, Frank Butler, whom she married in 1876 when she was 16. She starred in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show from 1885-1902. Oakley was called "Little Sure Shot" because she was only five feet tall. On this poster, with six illustrations of her in action, she is called "the peerless wing and rifle shot". Oakley's life story was told in Irving Berlin's 1946 musical, Annie Get Your Gun, currently enjoying a successful revival on Broadway. Her signature is rare in any form.
