A Tiger on the River Kwai: AVG Flying Tiger Pilot Charles D. Mott, An Interview (Flying Tigers Book 5)

In early January, 1942, leading an attack on a Japanese airfield in Thailand, AVG Flying Tiger pilot Charlie Mott was shot down and became the first American aviator captured by Japanese forces on the Asian Mainland. He was taken to Bangkok, and later sent to the infamous Japanese prison camp on the River Kwai.

Charlie's experiences were different from most other POWs. He had the distinction of not having surrendered; as an AVG Flying Tiger he was a civilian, and one of the "air pirates" Tokyo Rose talked about. The Japanese did not quite seem to know what to make of him.

Charlie Mott tells his story here, in the only full interview of his POW experiences he ever gave.
