A Short History of Painting
This short history does not provide a time-sequence of paintings accompanied by mini-biographies of their painters as is usual in histories of art. Instead, it discusses and illustrates, in colour, those influences that affected painting over the course of history such as the materials and their availability, religious and social changes, the markets for paintings, changing styles and those landmark painters who made a significant difference to painting.
