A Lady & Her Music
Long the subject of controversy, and never one to back down, La Lupe's talent ran deep and more often than not her stage presence outshone the bandleaders she was accompanying. Her illustrious career was not only spectacular but also ended in tragedy. She is the subject of movies, PBS Specials and her music has been played from every outlet imaginable (film to theater to night clubs).
Her journey began in Cuba and ended in NY, where she took the latter by storm in the 1960s. She sang everything from boleros to salsa and her Earth Kitt style voice was the foundation for one of the wildest stage shows ever seen at the time. Some thought she was possessed, others thought she was orgasmic. One thing was certain, if you saw her show you never forgot her. She acquired a devoted following, which included Ernest Hemingway, Tenessee Williams, Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Marlon Brando.
This collection is La Lupe's most complete anthology ever released! Long live the Queen of Latin Soul!
