60 YEARS LATER/HS SWEETHEARTS: A First Meeting In 60 Years
We were HS Sweethearts. We went together for three years—for all other students we were clearly “an itemâ€â€”she wanted to get married, but I had barely learned how to shave—so after a year at Wichita U, while she finished her senior year—[she is almost a year to the day younger than me—her birthday is on April 11, and mine is on the 18th—but since I wasn’t ready to get married, I broke up with her—Fast forward 60 years—she married someone else, as did I—she had 4 children, and I had three—over the years I wanted to call her to apologize, but mostly just to be civil—and this past December 18, 2012 I did call her—incidentally, I knew none of the above, and for all I knew she could be dead—the first words out of her mouth were “You must be kiddingâ€---and in short, we started exchanging emails [the content of this book] and talked on the phone a few times—And on April 11, 2013, and we have not seen each other even once in those 60 years, I am going to California to help celebrate her 78th birthday….
