3D mixed media textile art explores the fascinating and diverse world of mixed media sculpture, as well as fiber art incorporating 3-dimensional elements, through the eyes of 50 contemporary practitioners working in this field.

Each chapter tells the story of a different artist; their creative journey, what inspires them and the processes they use. Visually stunning and sumptuously inspiring images of their work illustrate their techniques, the vibrancy of their work and their individual style.

"When selecting artists to appear in our first book, innovation was key. We were determined to feature those pushing the boundaries of the medium both technically and conceptually. Polly Pollock, who makes non-functional basket artwork using techniques firmly rooted in tradition with an experimental edge.

Erica Gray, who uses materials associated with bike or car tyres, hardware stores or theatrical fields to create forms and shapes symbolic or representative of animals.

Ann Goddard, who combines textile elements with non-traditional media such as bark, slate and concrete.

Penny Burnfield, who uses textiles and mixed media as a means of expression and chooses materials and methods for their appropriateness.

Bella May Leonard, who challenges conventions of embroidery by embracing the beauty of the traditionally unseen back of the stitch (using Perspex as a base).

Heather Pickwell, who uses natural materials including rope, wool and charcoal.

Andrea Graham, who is celebrated for her innovative use of both traditional nomadic and modern felt-making techniques.

Pate Conaway, who combines a self-taught version of crochet with alternative materials such as rope, wire and rubber to create his artworks.

Susan Lenz, who works with meticulous hand stitch and self-guided free motion embroidery to “articulate the accumulated memory inherent in discarded things.”

Hilary Bower, whose interest in alternative materials, such as wood and metal in conjunction with cloth and thread, has led to a growing interest in sculptural forms.
