In mid-1969 Plymouth introduced a new performance package, code A12 adding a high performance 440 to their successful Road Runner muscle car. Plymouth called their new motor the 440-6 bbl. These A12 Road Runners came with a special Edelbrock manifold topped by three Holley 2 barrel carburetors that sucked in over 1,000 cfm of gas air mixture. This multi-carbed engine was rated at 390 hp. This package was far more than just a new motor, it was virtually a purpose built drag racer that included a fl at black, lightweight fi berglass lift off hood with a big scoop driving air into the Holleys and 15 inch black steel wheels.
