12L14 is a standard resulfurized and rephosphorized grade of carbon steel. It is a free machining steel and is commonly called by the trade name Ledloy. Lead has been added to the chemical composition to provide an improved level of machinability. Although machinability is excellent, the added lead content reduces the overall strength of this alloy.
